They say you can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl…well the same applies to this bourbon babe! You can take me away from my bourbon, but you can’t keep the bourbon out of me!

My love affair with bourbon is deeper than just the magical flavor profile that makes my tastebuds dance. For me it’s a beautiful countryside, memorable experiences, good friends, a true passion (or obsession depending on how you look at it) and some of the best times in my life!

Working in the spirits industry and living close to San Francisco, I have numerous opportunities to drink some of the finest bourbons in the country. Many of our bars and restaurants pride themselves on being bourbon-centric, and come up with some of the tastiest bourbon elixirs imaginable. In addition to the creative cocktails, these restaurants often serve “country style” cuisines to enhance your experience.

Kentuckians believe they have THE best bourbons in the world, and if you ask me I completely agree! In fact, the reason I fell in love with the category was through a tasting of American whiskies from a small family owned distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. Tasting a 17 year old vintage bourbon, which now retails for about $1000 a bottle if you can find it, was the beginning of my love affair with bourbon.

Six years later, four trips to Kentucky, numerous bourbons tried, two attempts at Angel’s Share Magazine, and 3 industry jobs later…I am now more than ever obsessed with bourbon! No fact last May I finally took a friend to KY (after talking at her about it since my first trip in 2009) to visit some of my distiller friends as well as checking off the “bucket list” of must dos by attending the Kentucky Derby. Absolutely magical experience for both of us bar none!

I could go on and on about my visits to beautiful Kentucky, but I will save those for future articles. In the meantime I just want to say…we’re back…AND third time’s a charm! Happy to be launching shortly after the Kentucky Bourbon Festival and WhiskyFest!
